crimson
i said, “the light right now is really good”, as we sat in a rowboat constructed of worn, unlaquered planks. i can’t remember exactly all of the things visible along the horizon, but i remember that everything was basted in a diluted crimson light. shoreside buildings, mountain ranges, perhaps other boats, the waves? i had a camera with me, and i set the aperture to be small so that the shutter speed would be slow. then i took the shot, and while the shutter was open i panned across the landscape and painted the negative with varying brightnesses of red. the reason i did this is because of something my photo teacher repeated recently, as he has said many times before — that crispness is a fact; that blur is a suggestion.
