tibet

i awoke in a german hotel, built overlooking a glacier or maybe it was on an iceberg.  it was bright that day.  i remember that my sister had helped me try out a two-person sleeping bag that had two layers in it: one for warmth and one to seal in the warmth, and yet it didn’t seem that warm.  i was up at 7:30, but i knew i had to hurry, i had to be at the airport for a 10:30 flight to tibet for a wedding.  yet i took my time in the bathroom, leisurely brushing my teeth.  by the time i made it downstairs, i saw my parents in the banquet hall, and the bride and groom were dressed in traditional tibetan clothing while a group of children and teenagers serenaded them in a foreign language, probably tibetan.  soon, they left.  outside, workers were breaking up the glacier/iceberg, and huge pieces — big like crystal skyscrapers — began to float away and churn the water.  i wasted time watching this.  then i ran to my room and packed a few things.  i looked at my watch and saw that it was 9:30 and i began panicking.  i rushed around the hotel looking for someone who could help me call the airport to check in and ensure the plane would not leave without me.  i was stopped by a hotel attendant who directed me in german to please stand in line, but it was a line for a cruise ship, and his confusion wasted valuable minutes.  but then i stopped and watched a bunch of young bohemians make an impromptu abstract painting of ryan gosling and this didn’t seem like a waste of time.  i looked up and i saw a woman that i had never seen before in waking life.  we knew each other right away and kissed hello.  i think she was going to tibet, too, and i hoped that i would see her there.
